'I wrote a thing in lockdown because these last few months have been rough for so many and mental health has taken a massive hit due to uncertainty, unemployment, living instability, news, injustice, loss and loneliness. I wanted to try to spread some hope as we deal with big change. Get to the end of the film coz it’s a happy one.

Poetry has just been dropped from the list of compulsory subjects to take at GCSE which to me just shows again how blatantly unimportant the arts are seen to be (although I wish I'd studied the poets I know and read now rather than the ones I did).
It f*kin scares me because having worked in education on and off for the last year or so I've seen crazy levels of anxiety and depression in young people. Sometimes really young, asking massive existential questions, and not from curiosity but from fear. I think it's pretty obvious how much we should be valuing art and creativity right now to make sense of the messy' - Gemma Barnett
